With none less than four (very cool) live acts and one (very hot) DJ duo, this Saturday will be a heavy piece of cake. There's absolutely no way you can miss the only London appearance of Swedish-French combo Envelopes and their spiky guitar pop, is there? Even less so with cheeky monkey Londoner Sportsday Megaphone, young multi-talented Micachu and bonkers brotherhood Karoshi Bros opening the night. And to close it in sweaty style, a welcome return to Be slopes of ski goggles experts : Punks Jump Up. Come early, we’re telling you !
Email us back before Friday 4pm for the bargain list.

Also this month... BE an insomniac!

Be will be making an exclusive appearance at The Insomniacs Ball 2008, the fifth instalment of the largest and most infamous indie indoor extravaganza. The event, held under the vaulted arches of London Bridge on May 31st, will see Be hosting the Indie Cabaret, inviting along some very special guests to come party with us! DJ revelry comes from the hugely respected Kitsune crew Punks Jump Up, loved by the likes of James Murphy and Erol Alkan and famed for their remixes which include Peter Bjorn & John’s infamous 2006 anthem ‘Young Folks’ and Robyn's UK number 1 smash hit ‘With Every Heartbeat’. Joining the duo to make some more noise is The Lovely Jonjo, better known for his long-term residency at Trash and Durrr not to mention his regular appearances at parties including Modular, Trailer Trash and, of course, Be! He’ll be spinning the best fresh independent indie and electro sounds around alongside our very own Be resident, founder and fool David H!
And if this isn’t enough to tantalise your taste buds and get those feet tapping, you should find it hard to resist the glamorous cabaret show hosted by Roxy Velvet, Kitty Bang Bang and Lady Ane Angel. Expect avant-garde walking burlesque, fire breathing and performance artists swinging from the eaves in a giant birdcage – in short an indoor festival like no other.

Envelopes can pride themselves of being certainly the most (and only?) promising band to emerge out of Sweden and France (via York) ever. This is spiky guitar pop at its very very best, think of ‘Surfer Rosa’ era Pixies crossed with B52’s and you won’t be far off. With their second album, ‘Here Comes the Wind’, the band have clearly taken in all things beloved to them - Yo La Tengo, Os Mutantes, Nico, Bob Hund and Stereolab all spring to mind - distilling them through their own, skewed pop filter to create a sound that reminds you of all your favourite bands, but ultimately sounds like no-one but themselves. Don’t miss them on their only London stop!

Electronic blips and drum machine handclaps combined with rough indierock guitars and vocals with attitude. Sometimes pure electro pop, other times full of raw punk energy, combine elements of several musical styles. Powered by a laptop and an electric guitar, it is hard to imagine such a complex sound is being made by only one (very talented) man. A brilliant EP called "Less and Less" was out last year on Sunday Best Records and Londoner SM is currently taking clubland by storm with his minimalist heart renching beats and riffs.

Mica Levi, aka Micachu, makes us envious: not only has she been gifted with a prodigious musical ability that led her to write an orchestral piece for the London Philharmonic Orchestra, but she also writes and produces stunning, experimental pop, or MCs with friends in various grime collectives. Currently doing the rounds is Micachu’s ‘Filthy Friends’ mixtape featuring the likes of Man Like Me, Kwes, Jack Penate, Fields, or Naked & the Boys. Get your hands on it!

Karoshi Bros are… well, brothers Dan and Sam Burt from Newcastle. Remixers of MIA, Maps, and Thieves Like Us, they’ll be debuting on stage in London and mysteriously claim they “are the North East’s answer to Iggy Pop”, although they actually sound more like an acid S-Club 7. It also appears that a très glamorous French lady is singing with them live, which all in all could lead to a few surprises. Oh la la!

Joe and David, the part English part Swedish London based duo's rebel sound began in 2002. White leather jackets, ski goggles, Nike trainers, Stussy rings...making our own beat. Dance music is cooking again. Let's do it in a different style. Played by James Murphy, Headman, Erol Alkan, Radio 1, Freeform 5. Remixes include 2006 anthem Young Folks by Peter Bjorn & John, Lo Fi Fnk, Gossip, Robyn's UK number 1 smash hit – With Every Heartbeat. Their second 12" Dance To Our Disco is out now on Kitsune. PJU have shared the bill with the likes of Sebastian, Klaxons, Shit Disco, Peaches, Soulwax, Tim Sweeney, Shit Robot, Hot Chip, Rapture, Digitalism. A welcome return to BE!

Be resident, founder and fool. David Harris was born in Lithuania sometime in the mid-80s. Used to play happily for hours with childhood friends using only the broken beer bottles and plastic bags they found lying around other peoples lawns. Halfway through his second year's apprenticeship as Bedouin camel trader, David was abducted by aliens and taken as prisoner to the planet Zooba 12 in home system Stylafun. There, he was raised by kangaroos and received special training in (amongst other things) the traditional art of turntable manipulation. Having received the secret kanga-knowledge, he was beamed back down to Camden's sleazy red light district, where he met (amongst others) Tom, Kate, Dan and the rest of the Be-Team. The night at Proud Galleries was "emotional" and "proper disco face melt" every week. David has played many of London and Europe’s least reputable after hours establishments over the last 10 years. He is cheap, willing, and available.
